AI Impairs more than critical thinking.

AI Impairs more than critical thinking.
Smart AI, dumb People?

Is Artificial Intelligence (AI) a net benefit to the internet? I'm seeing an increasing amount of AI-generated content on the internet and social media. Especially as media content is becoming more realistic. I don’t particularly find the created content organic or interesting.

In a 2025 Study, Microsoft conducted a study involving 12,500 people to evaluate how well people can detect AI-generated images. One of the key findings was that they only identified whether the images were AI-generated 62% of the time. Slightly better than flipping a coin or random guessing. The quality of these images will only look better over time.

The European Union is introducing legislation requiring all AI image generators to implement watermarks. However, there are already tools to remove these watermarks given enough GPU cycles. UnMarker undoes and removes AI identifiers.

People will generate articles and content from Large Language Models (LLMs), which basically spits out content that has already been created in a different format. Let's hope this problem is solved in the future, or developers find ways to encourage original content with a fresh perspective and encourage human creativity.

In Elon Musk's latest discussion with Joe Rogan, Musk suggests that the internet will be replaced with AI tools, for good or bad I agree with him.

I use AI to search, and it speeds up the research process. However, does it impair humanity's creative output?

According to this article Microsoft Study: AI Impairs Critical Thinking it does.
